Jon Smith OBE

Director

Jon, known as the original ’super-agent’, is one of the UK’s most successful and well-known sport influencers. His experience spans multiple sports at national and international level. Jon was the agent for the England national football team, developing the Team England vehicle that the FA still uses to this day.

Jon once owned the largest theatre marketing business in New York and London, and he also introduced America’s favourite sports, NBA, NFL and NHL to the UK. He has worked with many sporting superstars including Diego Maradona and Lord Sebastian Coe. His autobiography about his time as a ’super-agent’, The Deal, was a number 1 bestseller.

Jon’s role is to provide his unparalleled industry expertise and long-standing contacts in the sports and media sectors.

Jon was granted an OBE in the 2021 New Years Honours list for his contributions towards charitable work.

James Sheehan

Director

A founder of SM-22 and leading financial expert for the group, James brings a wealth of experience from a very successful 15 year career in the City of London, working for large and small regulated financial institutions.

James has held senior roles at several City institutions and worked across, Capital Markets, Investment Banking, Corporate Broking and Asset management, for firms that include Charles Stanley, Daniel Stewart and Kyte Group – Market Securities in Geneva, Switzerland. 

James has raised significant capital in his career for growth companies and supported the SME market in London by deploying well in excess of £250m and actively advising companies or investors in hundreds of transactions including numerous IPOs.

James is an experienced executive director and sits on the board of several growth companies and has personally financed a number of exciting companies of the future.

Fraser Robertson

Non-Executive Director

Fraser has a financial services background and has delivered successful business outcomes in executive positions both internationally and within the UK. His previous role as a Chief Operating Officer at Deutsche Bank covered Capital Markets and Treasury Solutions for corporate clients active in Asia; with the business delivering triple digit revenue growth over four years (to circa €1 billion).

He then moved into country management as an Executive Director to oversee the group’s global operating entities based out of Ireland. He attributes commercial success with building relationships that foster trust and influence within a rigorous financial and ethical governance framework where the goal is clear – to increase value. Fraser holds a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation.

Stella Smith

Non-Executive Director

Stella founded fin-tech start-up pirkx in 2018, a disruptive force in the UK’s employee benefits industry providing affordable wellbeing benefits for everyone and creating happier, healthier humans. She has board-level advisory expertise spanning alternative investments, technology, financial markets and services together with private enterprise.

Prior to founding pirkx, Stella was Chief Investment Officer at CWB Group, Senior Investment Director at alternative investment specialist Ingenious, and Director, Retail and Private Wealth at HBOS Treasury. Stella joined HBOS from Lloyds TSB Financial Markets and the majority of her early career was in private banking at C. Hoare & Co.

Stella takes delight in reconfiguring or creating businesses with fresh ideas and enjoys aligning commerciality with ethical behaviours, championing inclusivity and pioneering new concepts.

Lord Stuart Polak

Stuart was awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours List in 2015 for political services, and in October 2015 was elevated to the House of Lords as Lord Polak of Hertsmere.

Stuart is a senior advisor to Marsh McClellan, Chairman of the advisory board of TWC Associates, Non-Executive Director of Hi Bob (UK) Ltd, Trustee of the Holocaust Memorial Charitable Trust and was previously an advisor to Ladbrokes plc.

Born and educated in Liverpool, Stuart was the Education Director of the Board of Deputies of British Jews 1984-1989 and Director of the Conservative Friends of Israel 1989-2015. Stuart is a member of the Security and Justice Committee of the House of Lords.

Matthew Donovan

Business Development Manager

Matthew is an experienced sales professional within the finance, media and commercial property sectors with over 10 years’ experience selling into High-Net-Worth individuals, SME’S and some of the biggest brands globally.

Matthew has both managed sales teams and implemented strategic sales processes for the likes of Intu Properties a former FTSE 100 Company and leading real estate business as well as Cornhill Capital a city-based regulated financial institution. Matthew has a client centric approach to business development and understands that adding value to the customer proposition as well as building relationships are imperative.

With a key focus on growth, Matthew aims to help transform small businesses into multi-million-pound organisations.

Harrie Smith

Corporate Analyst

Harrie graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. He spent a year at a top-level strategy consultancy, executing research, analysis and presentations for some of the world’s leading private equity firms. At SM-22, Harrie leads company and market research, whilst developing the network and client base of SM-22.
